Is Donald Trump Hitler, Again?
The undisciplined former President steps in the proverbial $hit constantly; it's time to cut him loose.
The Donald Trump is Hitler tome has a new chapter. Over the weekend, the latest brain droppings from the former President included a statement at a campaign rally in New Hampshire that,
“We will put America first and today, especially in honor of our great veterans on Veterans Day, we pledge to you that we will root out the Communists, Marxists, Fascists and the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country."
Let us be clear - this is unwanted, unnecessary language unfit for a President. It is a vein of politics best described as religious fundamentalism at its worst.
So it is not surprising there was outrage, rightfully so in a vacuum. But one finds the vitriol forced and inauthentic when it comes from the same reporters and news organizations that had no problem with Hillary Clinton naming half the country “deplorables” in 2016; Mrs. Clinton recently doubled down on this claim in an interview with CNN. The former Secretary of State told Christiane Amanpour that “MAGA extremists” are a cult and that, “maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members.” Let’s be clear - that’s what totalitarians like the Nazis would suggest as a solution.
Similarly, Trump has recently faced outrage and consternation from just about every left-leaning pundit and every mainstream media organization for threatening to indict his political opponents. Breathless warnings about the end of democracy, based upon this statement, flooded the internet and X in response. President Trump though was specifically responding to a question about his own indictments, and making the point that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Its as if the media don’t want you to consider that the current President’s Administration has indicted his main political rival - and the person leading every poll for next year’s election, i.e. the frontrunner - twice, including indictments for the same alleged crime for which the current President himself has been accused but not indicted. Remember the Democrats impeached Trump for asking President Zelenskyy of Ukraine on a phone call to look into Biden’s corruption there - calling it illegal to ask for an investigation of a political rival; but using the awesome powers of the Department of Justice to bring indictments for same is fine. As an aside, who has been arrested for hiring the foreign national Michael Steele (who sourced his dossier directly from Russian nationals) to investigate Mrs. Clinton’s main political rival? The irony of these double standards is blinding.
Hypocrisy aside, former President Trump becomes more unhinged with every passing week. His loss in the 2020 election was clearly deeply painful to him, and he’s spent close to 3 years attempting to relitigate an election he is sure he did not lose - recently claiming he won all 50 states. It seems strange that he would imagine such personal power from a change election in which he didn’t win the popular vote. Does he not realize that the best reason to vote for Donald Trump in 2016 was Hillary Clinton? That the best reason to vote Trump in 2020 was Joe Biden? But that’s what you get with Trump - extreme hubris extremely communicated. To be sure, the biggest reason for Trump’s election in 2016 is that our central, federal government was and is FUBARed and has been for some time. Electing the poster children for career DC Insiders like Clinton or Biden seemed to be doubling down on 20 years of endless war, inflation, debt and the hollowing out of the middle class. Trump’s greatest strength was the perception that he was an outsider, ready to take on the entrenched interests screwing the People. He is no such thing any more, having served as President and utterly failed to deliver on his promises to build the wall, fix the deficit and federal budget, drain the swamp and restore American prosperity for the working poor and middle class.
If you were to design a better version of President Trump, you would make three major modifications. First, you would remove the incendiary, often disgraceful language he employs constantly to describe and attack his adversaries. Tenacious debate to achieve important objectives is admirable; Trump loses focus easily and often creates drama for drama’s sake. Second, you would refocus his message, platform and priorities to focus on sensible government reform that delivers results for every day Americans. While Trump attempted this in some ways, his disastrous handling of the COVID response demonstrated his inability to govern and stand up to entrenched interests. Third, you would want to find someone free from the chains of DC politics and bedfellows, an outsider that has proven he or she can deliver results for their constituency.
That person is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. “In his first 14 months as governor, he prioritized Everglades restoration, boosted teacher pay, pardoned the Groveland Four in a longstanding case of racial injustice, enabled the state’s legalization of medical marijuana and appointed a Democrat to lead the Division of Emergency Management.” Trump vacillated and stammered his way through the COVID crisis, putting his entire faith and COVID strategy in the hands of career bureaucrats with their own agenda; Ron DeSantis pursued smart policies, overturning bad decisions like lockdowns and mask mandates based on data and the scientific literature. His COVID response even drew praise from Democrats, one of which said, “And you need to understand, you think the Governor got COVID wrong. They think the Governor got COVID right, not only did he get it right, he got it right more than anyone.”
In the most recent Florida budget, the legislature and Governor passed $1.3B in tax cuts while maintaining a surplus of the $117B budget. The budget includes increased funding for schools and teachers, and increased school choice with voucher funding. And Florida continues to shine as the #1 ranked state in overall education and higher eduction in the nation, according to US News & World Report.
Governor DeSantis has also led this nation in the unwinding of terrible education policies for young children, including the guidance to remove adult discussions and content from Kindergarten through third grade, and the removal of the teaching of neo-Marxist ideologies like CRT in public education.
He has taken up the fight to secure our borders and restore law and order in his campaign, though the flight to Martha Vineyard was certainly a gimmicky play for press.
Most importantly, he has campaigned to focus our floundering foreign policy on China as our main adversary and has shown a reluctance to continue to fund endless regime change wars that have no benefit for the American people.
Ron DeSantis will never win a “most likable” contest - he is often awkward and seemingly officious. I couldn’t care less. Good governing is what we need, and Ron DeSantis not only has a deep understanding of the major issues facing this nation, he has a strong track record of delivering results based upon that smart understanding. At this point in the contest, he is the strongest choice for President of the United States.
